The calendar isn't helping this year: 31 October and 1 November fall on a Saturday and Sunday, so Chile has no long weekend until Christmas (Friday 25 to Sunday 27 December). The good news is that spring on the coast doesn't need a holiday. A Friday afternoon, two nights and a wish to look at the sea are enough.
Spring in Matanzas: long light and empty beaches
Between October and December the O'Higgins coast changes pace. Days get longer, mornings wake up slowly, and the beaches are still almost empty before the summer season. It's also the start of the wind season: the spots at Matanzas, Pupuya, Puertecillo and Topocalma fill with kite and windsurf sails, a show best watched from a terrace.

2.5 hours from Santiago
Matanzas is about 160 km from Santiago. Leave on Friday after lunch and you'll arrive in time for the first sunset. There are also direct buses from Santiago. All the details are in getting to Matanzas.
A 48-hour plan
- Friday: arrive, open the big window and light the grill. The sun sets right in front of the terrace.
- Saturday: a slow coffee while the beach wakes up, a beach walk towards Pupuya, an unhurried lunch and an afternoon watching the kiters. At sunset, the hot tub.
- Sunday: a long breakfast, one last walk and back to Santiago, avoiding the traffic if you leave after lunch.
Three of our four cabins have a private hot tub on the terrace, and all of them have a full kitchen, a grill and the same Pacific view from every room. More ideas for those days in things to do nearby and Play.

Midweek: the coast to yourselves
If you can take a Monday or a Friday off, the coast in spring is even quieter during the week. And if you're thinking about December: Tuesday the 8th is a public holiday, so taking Monday the 7th off gives you a four-day weekend.
